Soldier Allegedly Engaged in Multiple Fraud Cases Takes Own Life

 

In a tragic incident that transpired on Friday, a member of the 48 Engineer Regiment stationed in Accra, reportedly took his own life. Lance Corporal Sapak Dickson was discovered lifeless, having hanged himself using an electrical cable within the Unit’s guard room.

 

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) officially disclosed this heart-wrenching development in a statement released on the 13th of October, 2023.

 

According to the GAF, their preliminary investigation suggests that Lance Corporal Sapak Dickson, who was facing multiple allegations of fraudulent activities, had been placed in close custody on the 11th of October, 2023, at approximately 19:30 hours. This action followed a report to the Regiment, indicating his involvement in defrauding a Defense Civilian Staff member.

In response to this tragic event, a joint team consisting of Ghana Military Police and a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel from the Teshie Divisional Police Headquarters was swiftly dispatched to the scene for a comprehensive investigation.

 

The GAF has confirmed that the body of the deceased soldier has been transported to the mortuary at the 37 Military Hospital.

 

In their official statement, the GAF extended their deepest condolences to the grieving family, colleagues, friends, and loved ones of the late Lance Corporal Sapak Dickson. This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the human toll that allegations of wrongdoing can take on individuals, their families, and the wider military community.
