The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry has announced that the planned increase in sachet water prices will no longer take effect as previously scheduled, following discussions with key industry stakeholders.
In a press release issued on Monday, April 6, the ministry commended the and the for suspending the proposed price adjustment.
“The Ministry assures the public that the price of sachet water will not increase today. Consumers can continue to purchase sachet water at the current price,” the statement said.
The suspension comes after an earlier announcement by NASPAWAP of a planned upward price review, which it attributed to a global shortage of polymers and rising production costs linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions, particularly the conflict involving .
Under the earlier proposal, new prices were expected to rise to GH¢8 at the ex-factory level and up to GH¢15 at the retail level.
However, the ministry stated that the decision to suspend the increase reflects government’s commitment to protecting consumers and ensuring market stability.
To address the concerns raised by producers, the ministry has scheduled a meeting with the leadership of GPMA and NASPAWAP on Wednesday, April 8, to seek a lasting solution to the challenges facing the sector.
“The Ministry remains steadfast in working with all trade associations to resolve issues swiftly and maintain stability in the market,” the statement added.
The development provides temporary relief for households across , where sachet water remains a major source of drinking water for many families.
