President Akufo-Addo to Deliver Last State of the Nation Address on February 27

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is gearing up to deliver his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.

This announcement was relayed by the Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, during a session in Parliament.

The SONA, mandated by Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, heralds the start of each parliamentary session and provides an avenue for the President to apprise the nation on various facets of governance and development.

During the forthcoming address, President Akufo-Addo is slated to delve into critical issues including security, governance, anti-corruption efforts, education, healthcare, and infrastructure. It is expected that he will furnish updates on the current state of these sectors and unveil his administration’s plans going forward.

In his opening remarks at the inauguration of the fourth session of the 8th Parliament, President Akufo-Addo underscored the strides made in the country’s economy. He highlighted the positive outcomes stemming from recent economic reforms, citing heightened optimism and resilience witnessed during the Christmas festivities. The President underscored that such advancements had dispelled any apprehensions regarding Ghana’s economic trajectory, as corroborated by international bodies such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.

President Akufo-Addo also revealed that the World Bank has pledged over $300 million to bolster macroeconomic stability and foster sustainable economic growth in Ghana. Furthermore, he noted the disbursement of the IMF’s second tranche of bailout funds, predicated on the favorable assessment of the economy.
