The Northern Regional Police Command has disrupted a significant illicit pharmaceutical operation in Tamale, arresting 53-year-old Alhaji Abdulai Sayuti for the unlawful possession and sale of restricted opioid medications.
An intelligence-led raid on Tuesday, July 15, at around 1:30 p.m. targeted Sayuti’s Over‑The‑Counter chemical shop at Victory Cinema near Aboabo. Officers seized 368 blisters of Tramadol (120 mg) and 298 blisters of Tramaking (120 mg) both controlled substances under Ghanaian law.
Further investigation led police to Sayuti’s residence in Fuo, where they uncovered a warehouse stocked with an additional 447 boxes of Tramadol and 11 boxes of Tramaking. The combined haul represents one of the largest single seizures of these opioids in the region this year.
Sayuti was arraigned on Wednesday, July 16, on charges of illegal possession and unauthorized sale of restricted pharmaceuticals. During the court session, the accused collapsed and was rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for medical treatment. He has since been remanded in prison and is expected to reappear before the court on July 21, 2025.
The Northern Regional Commander praised the operation as a victory in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking. He urged the public to report suspicious drug sales to help curb the spread of controlled substances in the community.
