Police Foil Robbery Attempt in Accra, Two Suspects Killed, Officer Injured

The Ghana Police Service has successfully foiled a planned armed robbery in Accra, following an intelligence-led operation by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) on Monday, July 15, 2025.

According to the Police, credible intelligence revealed that five armed men had checked into a hotel in Labadi and were plotting to rob a foreign national at Cantonments. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the police mounted surveillance and intercepted the suspects as they moved toward their target in a Toyota Yaris.

Sensing the police presence, the suspects opened fire on the officers, injuring one officer in the legs and underarm. The officers returned fire, fatally wounding two of the suspects, who were later confirmed dead at the Police Hospital.

The injured officer is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

At the scene, police retrieved two pump-action guns loaded with live cartridges, three mobile phones, talismans, and other items believed to be connected to the planned robbery.

A manhunt is ongoing for the remaining three suspects who managed to flee the scene. The Police Service has urged the public to assist with any information that could lead to their arrest.
