Police foil robbery attempt at Community 24, Ashaiman; three suspects shot dead

The Tema Regional Police Command has successfully foiled an attempted robbery at Community 24 in the Adjei-Kojo District of the Ashaiman Division, resulting in the death of three suspected armed robbers following a gun battle with police.

According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service in Tema, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, December 21, 2025, at about 1:30 a.m. The Ashaiman Divisional Police Intelligence Team received information about an ongoing robbery at a private residence within Community 24 and immediately dispatched officers to the scene.

Upon arrival, the police encountered six young men who were allegedly part of the robbery attempt. The suspects were said to be wearing face masks and hoodies and were armed with machetes, firearms, and other offensive weapons. Police say the suspects opened fire on the officers, prompting the police to return fire in self-defence.

During the exchange of gunfire, three of the suspects were fatally wounded and later died from their injuries. The remaining three suspects, believed to have sustained gunshot wounds, managed to flee the scene.

A search conducted at the scene led to the retrieval of several exhibits, including three face masks, three machetes, and an unregistered Royal 125 motorbike believed to have been used by the suspects. The bodies of the deceased suspects have since been conveyed to the Police Hospital for preservation, identification, and autopsy.

The police have also alerted hospitals and health facilities within the area to report any male individuals who may present with gunshot wounds. Health institutions have been directed to notify the police through the emergency lines should such cases be identified, as investigations continue to track down the fleeing suspects.

The Tema Regional Police Command has commended the operational team for their swift response and professionalism in handling the situation. The Command further appealed to members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to help maintain peace and security within the region.
