The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has revealed that it is currently investigating more than 152 cases of corruption at various stages. This includes an examination of contractual arrangements between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority, as well as investigations into the appropriation, sale, and lease of state-owned lands and properties to individuals and corporate bodies since 1993.
The information was disclosed in the OSP’s fourth half-yearly report covering the period from July 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023. According to the report, the office has made significant strides in the fight against corruption, but challenges persist.
The report highlighted that three significant criminal cases were under investigation, including the trial of the former Chief Executive of the Public Procurement Authority, which is currently underway at the Criminal Division of the High Court in Accra. Other cases involve the Northern Development Authority and the Chief Executive of A&QS Consortium Limited, pending before the Criminal Division of the High Court in Tamale.
Furthermore, the report noted that some cases, including those involving a former Minister for Sanitation, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, and Mr. Charles Bissue, Secretary of the dissolved Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), were yet to proceed to full trial.
Several cases have been closed, including the investigation into the alleged attempted bribery of the majority caucus of Parliament and the case of the former Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Charles Adu Boahen, as detailed in an investigative documentary.
The OSP also revealed its efforts to extend its reach by opening regional offices in Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tamale, reflecting a commitment to broadening the impact of the fight against corruption across the nation. The office has engaged with various stakeholders, including the judiciary and international agencies, to enhance collaboration and efficiency in its duties.
