Police presence has been heightened at Osino Presby Senior High and Technical School following a violent clash between students and members of the Nsuapemso community in the Fanteakwa South District, resulting in one fatality.
The altercation, which occurred on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, stemmed from escalating tensions following a previous incident on Monday, February 19, 2024, where a student allegedly seized a phone belonging to a town resident and assaulted him during a school debate in another community.
In a retaliatory move, the town residents returned the next day, leading to a confrontation that escalated into a violent clash. During the altercation, the residents attempted to set fire to the boys’ dormitory but were subdued by the students. One of the residents was apprehended, beaten severely, and later pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital where he was taken for treatment.
In response to the incident, the Fanteakwa South District Security Council (DISEC) held an emergency meeting and deployed police personnel from the district and reinforcements from Koforidua to the school to maintain law and order, enhance security, and restore peace.
DISEC also visited the family of the deceased to express their condolences and assured them of a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure justice is served.
