One suspected armed robber has been killed after police disrupted a planned highway robbery along the Ejura–Nkoranza road in the Ashanti Region.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the incident occurred on April 9, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation near Mimenaso No. 2, where a six-member gang was allegedly preparing to attack motorists.
Police said the suspects, reportedly led by Mahamadu Fuseini, also known as Shaini, opened fire on officers after mistaking them for potential victims. The officers returned fire, killing one suspect, while the others, including the alleged leader, escaped.
Security personnel retrieved a pump-action gun loaded with four live cartridges, along with two spent cartridges and three mobile phones. Additional items recovered from the deceased included two live cartridges and a talisman.
The body has been deposited at the Atebubu Government Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the remaining suspects.
