The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has announced plans to hold a demonstration against the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) following the withholding of 10,500 results from the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
WAEC cited various forms of malpractice, including answer photocopying, smuggling mobile phones, and collusion in exam halls, as reasons for the withheld results, with investigations still ongoing.
However, NUGS has strongly criticized WAEC’s approach, arguing that thousands of students have been unfairly affected by the delays and cancellations.
The protest is scheduled for Tuesday, February 25, starting at 9:00 AM at Obra Spot, Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
In a statement, NUGS President Daniel Korley Botchway confirmed that the Greater Accra Regional Police Command had been informed, emphasizing that the demonstration is aimed at resisting what NUGS considers an abuse of WAEC’s discretionary power.
The union has urged all affected students and concerned stakeholders to join the protest in a collective demand for justice.
