The National Sports Authority (NSA) has issued a warning against any protests or political demonstrations during the Black Stars’ 2025 AFCON qualifying match against Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium. This follows plans by organizers of the “Stop Galamsey” protest, who have encouraged fans to wear their protest attire to the match.
The protests are part of ongoing efforts by Ghanaian youth to call for action against illegal mining (galamsey), which has severely impacted the country’s water bodies. Last week, protestors took to the streets of Accra for three days, and there were indications that they intended to continue their demonstrations at the stadium during the match.
In a statement endorsed by the NSA’s Public Relations department, the authority made it clear that anyone found promoting political agendas or protests at the game would be arrested. The NSA emphasized that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) prohibits such actions, and security personnel will be on high alert to enforce this.
Fans are advised to comply with match-day security regulations to avoid any disruptions or sanctions.
