President John Dramani Mahama has ordered that individuals involved in the National Service Authority (NSA) scandal be declared wanted and their assets frozen as investigations intensify.
Speaking during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 27, 2025, Mahama reiterated his government’s commitment to accountability and anti-corruption efforts.
“As part of our ‘Recover All the Loot’ policy, I have already tasked our investigative bodies to bring the culprits to justice. Such blatant theft of public funds must not go unpunished,” he stated.
The scandal was uncovered after a headcount of active National Service personnel by the Ministry of Finance, which sought to clear allowance arrears dating back to August 2024. The audit revealed major discrepancies, as only 98,145 personnel were verified, far below the 180,030 names initially submitted by the previous management.
Following the revelations, GH₵226,019,224 was released for verified personnel, exposing the extent of ghost names and fraudulent activities.
Over the weekend, the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) detained former Deputy Director Kwaku Ohene Gyan (Osonoba) and accountant Yaw Danso in connection with the scandal.
Mahama had earlier directed the new NSA leadership to implement urgent reforms to prevent future fraudulent activities.
