Nine Dead, 15 Injured in Fatal Accident Near Walewale

A tragic accident on the Walewale highway in the North East Region has claimed the lives of nine people and left 15 others severely injured on the afternoon of Thursday, February 13, 2025.

The accident occurred when a Sprinter vehicle traveling from Kumasi to Nalerigu crashed into a stationary long truck near Walewale township.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Walewale Government Hospital, where the injured victims are also receiving medical treatment.

According to eyewitnesses, the Sprinter driver was speeding and, upon entering the Walewale township, failed to control the vehicle upon noticing the parked truck, leading to the fatal crash.

The impact left the Sprinter vehicle mangled, trapping several passengers inside.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.

This incident raises further concerns about road safety and the dangers of speeding on major highways in Ghana.
