Nigerian culinary sensation Hilda Effiong Bassey, widely known as Hilda Baci, has been dethroned from her Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon. The Guinness World Records (GWR) has officially recognized a new record holder, Alan Fisher, a chef and restaurant owner based in Japan.
The GWR statement announced, “Alan Fisher (Ireland), an owner and chef of a restaurant in Japan, has broken two cooking-related Guinness World Records titles.” Fisher achieved the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual) by clocking an impressive time of 119 hours and 57 minutes. This surpasses Hilda Baci’s previous record by over 24 hours.
In addition to this remarkable feat, Alan Fisher also secured the title for the longest baking marathon (individual), completing it in 47 hours and 21 minutes. The previous record holder was Wendy Sandner from the USA, who had held the record for 31 hours and 16 minutes.
What makes Fisher’s accomplishments even more astonishing is that he tackled both record attempts back-to-back, spending over 160 hours in the kitchen with just over a day of rest in between.
Hilda Baci initially set the record for the longest cooking marathon in June, impressively cooking continuously for several days and producing more than 100 pots of food. Her original goal was to reach 100 hours, but a slight error concerning one of her rest breaks led to a deduction from her total time. Hilda Baci had broken the previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes, which was held by Lata Tondon from India since 2019.
Alan Fisher’s incredible culinary marathon has now earned him the prestigious Guinness World Records titles, marking a remarkable achievement in the world of gastronomy.
