The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken decisive action by suspending its Northern Regional Vice-Chairman, Alhaji Gbewaa, for a period of three months. The suspension follows a heated dispute between Gbewaa and Hajia Shamima Yakubu, the Northern Regional Treasurer of the NDC, over party finances at the regional secretariat in Accra.
Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, clarified that the suspension is pending investigations and other necessary processes to thoroughly examine the issues and arrive at a final resolution.
The altercation at the NDC Regional Party Secretariat in Tamale reportedly involved a physical assault on Hajia Shamima Yakubu by Alhaji Gbewaa. The incident is said to be connected to party funds, contributing to the escalating tensions within the NDC.
This recent incident follows a violent altercation last week involving Chairman Azorka and the National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, at the Global Dream Hotel. Hajia Shamima Yakubu, known as the Iron Lady and a loyal supporter of former President John Mahama, suffered facial injuries in the reported assault and received medical treatment as a result.
