The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has announced plans to engage Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson on the introduction of tax credits for private corporations that donate to the National Peace Council (NPC).

According to him, this initiative aims to secure adequate funding for the NPC’s operations, particularly in addressing chieftaincy conflicts across the country.

Speaking during a familiarization visit on February 17, Muntaka emphasized the need to equip the Peace Council to mitigate conflicts before they escalate into violence and looting.

“We have seen situations where, due to a lack of peace, people loot shops amid confusion. We don’t pray to get there. To prevent such occurrences, the Peace Council must be resourced to continue engaging and fostering dialogue to douse tensions,” he stated.

He further explained his proposal to the Finance Minister:

“I will be talking to the Minister of Finance to encourage him to give tax credits to persons who donate to the Peace Council. If you donate to the Peace Council, you can be receipted and use that to reduce your tax burden.”

The move is expected to encourage private sector contributions to the NPC, ensuring sustainable funding for peacebuilding efforts across the country.
