Ghana Police Arrest 30-Year-Old Mavis Nkrumah For Pouring Acid On Ex-Lover

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old woman, Mavis Nkrumah, for allegedly carrying out an acid attack on her former boyfriend in the early hours of May 28, 2025.

According to a police statement, the incident occurred at Abeka Fan Milk, a suburb of Accra, when Nkrumah confronted her ex-partner, Gideon Frimpong, a 29-year-old taxi driver, during a late-night encounter. The two reportedly engaged in a heated exchange regarding their past relationship while Gideon was driving.

He made a brief stop near Otamkye, during which Mavis allegedly splashed acid on him, causing severe burns.

Bystanders quickly intervened and rushed Gideon to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Mavis reportedly fled the scene but was later apprehended at a hideout in Nungua on June 2. She is currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has assured the public of its resolve to ensure justice is served and urged residents to report suspicious behavior to the nearest police station.
