Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, has confirmed that he is currently under investigation by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) over matters related to his time as Minister of Education.

The former Energy Minister and 2024 Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) revealed this to journalists on Wednesday, June 4, in Accra.

“As I speak to you now, I have been invited by the NIB on two different occasions to answer some questions from my time as Education Minister—some issues I don’t even remember. But the records are there to show,” NAPO stated.

His comments come amid a broader anti-corruption drive by the administration of President John Dramani Mahama, which has launched multiple investigations into former appointees of the previous government.

In addition to NAPO, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (popularly known as Chairman Wontumi), is also being investigated by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for alleged money laundering and corruption.

President Mahama recently announced that the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice is currently building 33 cases involving corruption and related offences against former officials. These cases are based on findings from the “Operation Recover All Loot” (ORAL) Team, a task force created to track and report corruption under the previous administration.
