Mobile Money Vendor Shot Dead in Manso-Asamang, Police Launch Investigation

A mobile money vendor, identified as 33-year-old Augustine Mensah, has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Manso-Asamang in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.

The tragic incident occurred on the night of Wednesday, February 26, 2025, when Mensah, who had already closed his shop for the day, was reportedly called by a customer to perform a transaction. While returning home after attending to the request, he was attacked and fatally shot.

A passerby discovered the critically injured vendor and rushed him to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His body has since been deposited at St. Martin’s Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Mensah’s murder comes just two weeks after a similar incident in Kumasi, where Patricia Nimako, another mobile money vendor, was shot and killed at her shop in Krofrom. Her family has been demanding justice, but no arrests have been made in that case.

The back-to-back killings have left residents in fear, with concerns rising over the safety of mobile money vendors in the region. Community leaders have called on security agencies to intensify efforts to curb such violent attacks.

The police have launched an investigation into the Manso-Asamang shooting and are urging the public to provide any relevant information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
