Tensions flared in Parliament on Thursday, July 24, as Members of the Minority staged a walkout moments before Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson was scheduled to deliver the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review.

The protest was in response to recent violence during the parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency.

Minority Chief Whip and Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, said the walkout was a matter of principle, noting that the caucus could not participate in budget proceedings while electoral injustices remained unaddressed.

As the Minority exited the chamber, members of the Majority taunted them with loud chants of “away, away, away,” creating a charged atmosphere in the House.

The Minority has vowed to escalate the issue by submitting a formal petition to President John Dramani Mahama, the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), and other civil society organizations, calling for accountability and electoral reforms.
