Ghanaian actress Martha Ankomah and actor Kwadwo Nkansah, known as Lilwin, have reached an out-of-court settlement in their defamation lawsuit, just as the trial was set to begin at the High Court in Accra.
The settlement came to light unexpectedly on the morning of the trial, as Ankomah’s legal team, led by Nii Apatu Plange, informed the court of a recent development. According to reports from Accra-based Starr FM, Plange revealed that the parties had reached an agreement, prompting a brief adjournment to finalize the details.
Justice Forson Agyapong Baah, the presiding judge, acknowledged the settlement and rescheduled the case for August 15, 2024, to formalize the agreement.
The defamation case arose from a viral video in which Lilwin allegedly used derogatory language to question Ankomah’s standing in the movie industry. The comments were said to have tarnished her reputation as a brand ambassador for GTP. In response, Ankomah initially sought five million cedis in damages.
The terms of the settlement have not been disclosed, but the resolution of the case avoids a potentially lengthy court battle for both parties.
