At least seven people have been confirmed dead and 18 others injured following a head-on collision at Komenda Asamasa along the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway.
The accident occurred at about 7:25 pm on Monday, January 12, 2026, involving a Sprinter bus with registration number GS 6705-21 travelling from Komenda towards Takoradi, and a Man Diesel truck, GS 8394 Y, heading from Takoradi towards Cape Coast.
The Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
According to the statement, personnel from the Komenda Fire Station responded promptly and rescued six victims who were trapped in the Sprinter bus after it veered into a nearby bush. All six were pronounced dead on arrival at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
An additional female victim who had earlier been rushed to the hospital was also pronounced dead, bringing the total number of fatalities to seven.
The deceased included three females, one of whom was pregnant, one infant, and three males.
Eighteen other passengers who sustained varying degrees of injuries were rescued before the arrival of the GNFS team and are currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
Eyewitnesses indicated that the truck lost control while overtaking another vehicle, leading to the head-on collision with the oncoming Sprinter bus.
After the rescue operation, GNFS personnel cleared debris from the road to restore traffic flow and ensure safety at the scene.
