Manhyia Palace Reportedly Summons Chairman Wontumi for Disrespecting Otumfuo’s Authority

The Manhyia Palace has reportedly summoned Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, over allegations of challenging the authority of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.

According to Onuaonline.com, the incident occurred during a session of the NPP parliamentary primaries vetting committee last week. Chairman Wontumi, without any provocation, allegedly declared his intention to challenge the Asantehene, stating, “I have established my own kingdom, with my own police and military, and I will voice my disagreements with Otumfuo if necessary.”

The report highlights the presence of NPP National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, who chaired the vetting committee during the incident. Additionally, Kokosohene, Nana Kwaku Duah, who was also present at the meeting, expressed his dissatisfaction with Chairman Wontumi’s statements, reportedly stating, “Your words are unacceptable, and I am deeply unhappy with your strange and disrespectful behavior.”

In response to the alleged challenge to Otumfuo’s authority, the Asanteman Traditional Council has purportedly written a letter to the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua. The letter aims to arrange Chairman Wontumi’s appearance at the Manhyia Palace, where he will be expected to explain his comments and address the perceived disrespect towards the Asantehene.
