NEIP CEO Released Amidst Allegations of Misusing State Funds for Personal Campaign

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has been released following accusations of misusing state funds for his political campaign. Mr. Nkansah, who is also running for the Asante Akim Central parliamentary seat, was detained by the Special Prosecutor on January 10 after allegations emerged that he had been distributing money to delegates ahead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary primaries.

The claims of money distribution were brought to the attention of the Special Prosecutor by Mr. Anyimadu Antwi, a political rival of Mr. Nkansah and the New Patriotic Party’s Asante Akim Central constituency secretary. Felix Amakye, the constituency secretary, revealed this in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM. However, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Asante Akim Central, Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, denied any knowledge of the arrest.

Sources within the Office of the Special Prosecutor have stated that they are investigating Mr. Ofosu Nkansah for allegedly diverting NEIP funds to support his political campaign. It is alleged that he used state resources meant for entrepreneurial and innovative programs for personal gain.

Mr. Ofosu Nkansah, who is aspiring to be the NPP’s parliamentary candidate in the Asante Akim Central constituency, is challenging the incumbent, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi. In response to the allegations, Mr. Nkansah expressed his ignorance of the accusations made by the constituency secretary, stating, “I have no clue about what the secretary is alleging. It is about time for us to hold the elections, and the primaries are still around the corner. This is not a do-or-die affair. The secretary has taken sides with one of the contenders and has spoken passionately, causing division in the constituency among the delegates.”

Furthermore, Mr. Nkansah denied any knowledge of the reported payments and attributed them to the secretary’s public statements on Facebook. He emphasized that the focus should be on conducting fair and transparent elections rather than engaging in divisive actions.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor continues to investigate the allegations against Mr. Ofosu Nkansah, and further developments in the case are awaited. The outcome of the investigation will determine the implications for his candidacy in the Asante Akim Central constituency.
