The family of the baby allegedly stolen from Mamprobi Polyclinic is demanding a DNA test to confirm the child’s biological identity following the infant’s retrieval.

Frank Banks Misbau, uncle of the newborn, made the call after the baby was recovered. The infant was reportedly taken from the facility shortly after the mother delivered through a caesarean section on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

The incident sparked panic among staff and patients after it was discovered that the newborn had been removed from the ward under unclear circumstances.

Speaking after the baby was found, Misbau emphasised the need for scientific confirmation of the child’s identity.

“We need to conduct a DNA test to ensure that the baby is ours; we cannot just accept it because she brought it. What if in the next 10 years we want to travel with the kid and things are not matching,” he said.

According to reports, the suspect allegedly disguised herself as a nurse and was captured on CCTV cameras carrying the baby out of the premises in what appeared to be a sack.

Following investigations by the Ghana Police Service, the suspect has been arrested and is expected to be arraigned on Thursday, February 19.

Despite the baby’s recovery, the family insists that a DNA test is necessary to conclusively establish the child’s bloodline and eliminate any lingering doubts.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing as the family awaits further medical and legal processes.
