The Majority in Parliament has pushed back against the Minority’s criticisms of the recently passed GHS1 energy sector levy, accusing them of misleading the public and engaging in populist rhetoric.

The Minority had alleged that the levy was introduced without proper stakeholder consultations. However, Chairman of the Energy Committee, Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah, refuted the claims, stating that Minority MPs were fully involved in all parliamentary deliberations on the bill.

“All the Minority members on the Finance and Energy Committees were present during the discussions. No one stepped out; they participated fully,” Bedzrah said.

He cited MPs such as George Kwame Aboagye and Collins Adomako Mensah among those in attendance, asserting that the final decision was a majority vote. Bedzrah criticized the Minority for later claiming they were excluded, calling it a deliberate attempt to misinform Ghanaians.
