President John Dramani Mahama has constituted an eight-member committee to oversee the planning of the National Education Forum, fulfilling his campaign pledge to engage stakeholders on advancing Ghana’s education sector, particularly the Free SHS policy.
During his 2024 election campaign, President Mahama promised to organize a national dialogue to gather insights and recommendations for enhancing Ghana’s education system. The newly formed committee has been given two weeks to submit its report and implementation plan for the forum.
The committee is chaired by Professor George K. T. Oduro, a former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast. Other members include:
- Professor Goski Alabi
- Professor Rosemary Bosu
- Samuel Awuku, Ph.D.
- Professor Smile Dzisi
- Kofi Asare
- Stephen Owusu
- Inusah Shiraz
The committee’s Terms of Reference (TOR) outline key objectives such as:
- Developing a guiding theme for the forum.
- Identifying key stakeholders across the education sector.
- Proposing an agenda with structured time allocations.
- Selecting a venue and date for the forum.
- Establishing a secretariat and preparing a budget for the event.
Additionally, the committee is tasked with compiling a comprehensive report detailing the forum’s findings and recommendations. Within three weeks after the forum’s conclusion, they are expected to draft a national education policy framework and an action plan for implementing reforms.
This initiative is part of President Mahama’s broader vision to strengthen Ghana’s education system by fostering inclusive dialogue and evidence-based policymaking.
