John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of actions he claims are intended to favor the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the December 7 elections.
In a Facebook post on December 6, Mahama alleged that the EC’s failure to address exposed validating stamps could facilitate election malpractice. “With less than 24 hours to go, it has become obvious that the Electoral Commission is determined to aid the ruling NPP to rig the elections. But they will fail because the people of Ghana are determined to vote for change and protect their ballots,” he stated.
He highlighted reports of validating stamps being exposed since Thursday night, accusing the EC of not issuing directives to prevent staff from revealing stamp identities. Mahama claimed this could allow counterfeit ballot papers to appear valid.
He called on the National Peace Council, religious and traditional leaders, civil society, the international community, and election observer missions to intervene and ensure the EC addresses the issue.
