Mahama: 220,000 Students to Benefit from ‘No Fee Stress’ Policy in 2026

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government’s No Fee Stress Initiative has already supported more than 152,000 first-year students in public tertiary institutions.

Delivering his 2026 State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Friday, February 27, the President revealed that the number of beneficiaries is projected to increase to 220,000 this year.

“As I speak, the ‘No Fee Stress’ Initiative has benefitted over 152,000 first-year students in public tertiary universities. The number of beneficiaries this year is projected to reach 220,000 first-year students,” he stated.

President Mahama also announced that, in collaboration with the Students Loan Trust Fund, law students in Ghana will now be eligible to access student loan schemes to support their legal education.

He explained that the expansion forms part of broader government efforts to reduce financial barriers and improve access to higher education nationwide.
