The novel coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19, has been classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization after it spread worldwide. — with major hot spots in the United States, China, Iran and Italy.
Countries around the world imposed lockdowns and curfews, and asked people to self-isolate or practise social distancing. In other to control the spread of the virus.
Now, months after those moves, several countries are looking at plans to cautiously reopen — including Canada.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the federal environment minister announced that national parks and historic sites will partially reopen. Starting in June, after they were closed for more than a month to stop the spread of the virus.
The prime minister also announced $469 million in federal support for struggling Canadian fish harvesters through an industry-specific benefit and a grant.
