Robert Lewandowski delivered a first-half hat-trick to help Barcelona reclaim their three-point lead at the top of La Liga with a commanding win over Alaves.
Real Madrid had briefly pulled level with Barcelona after their victory against Villarreal, but Lewandowski’s clinical performance restored the advantage for Hansi Flick’s side. The Polish striker opened the scoring early on, heading home from Raphinha’s well-placed cross, followed by a close-range finish after more good work from the Brazilian. Lewandowski completed his hat-trick by slotting a shot past Alaves goalkeeper Antonio Sivera, assisted by Eric Garcia.
The 36-year-old forward now boasts 12 goals in 11 games across all competitions for Barcelona, who have been in fine form, averaging over three goals per game in La Liga this season.
Reflecting on his performance, Lewandowski credited his teammates: “I had some good passes and they made it easier for me to score.” He acknowledged the team’s progress while noting there’s still room for improvement.
Although Alaves showed flashes of threat, they were unable to find the net, with Toni Martinez’s effort disallowed for offside just before halftime.
