In a recent interview, former President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwasi Nyantakyi, has unequivocally named Abedi ‘Pele’ Ayew as the finest Ghanaian footballer in history. Nyantakyi, reflecting on Pele’s brilliance, emphasized that the former Marseille player stands head and shoulders above every other Ghanaian footballer.
During the interview with Starr FM, Nyantakyi reminisced about his admiration for Pele, stating that the former Real Tamale United (RTU) attacker left an indelible mark on his mind. He praised Pele’s exceptional skills and recalled traveling miles to watch him play in Tamale.
“Abedi Pele was just brilliant, and the likes of Michael Essien, Stephen Appiah, and Sulley Muntari will all agree,” Nyantakyi remarked. He highlighted Pele’s impact, not only on him but also on referees who eagerly sought photos with the iconic footballer.
Abedi Pele, an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner in 1982, is widely regarded as one of the best players to have emerged from Africa. His stellar career includes notable achievements, such as clinching the UEFA Champions League with Olympique Marseille.
Nyantakyi’s declaration further solidifies Abedi Pele’s legacy as a football legend, resonating with fans and fellow players who acknowledge his unparalleled contribution to Ghanaian football.
