KNUST student dies after falling from second floor of hostel at Ayeduase

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has confirmed the death of a student who reportedly fell from the second floor of his hostel at Ayeduase in Kumasi.

In a statement issued on Monday, February 9, 2026, university management identified the deceased as Ransford Amankwah Asomani, a second-year Bachelor of Science student in Agribusiness Management.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, February 8, 2026, at an off-campus hostel in the Ayeduase area. Mr Asomani was rushed to the KNUST Hospital by his colleagues, with support from the KNUST District Police Patrol Team, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Management said the family of the deceased has been formally informed, while his body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The university expressed profound sadness over the incident and extended its condolences to the bereaved family, friends and the wider university community.

Meanwhile, the KNUST Police, in collaboration with the university’s security services, have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fall.

University authorities assured the public that further updates will be provided after the completion of investigations and reiterated their commitment to the safety, security and well-being of students and staff.

The statement was signed by the University Relations Officer, Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe.
