Ghanaian actor, farmer, and entrepreneur John Kofi Setor Dumelo has been appointed as the Deputy Minister designate for Food and Agriculture by President John Dramani Mahama.
The announcement was made by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President, on February 5, 2025.
Dumelo, who currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has been an advocate for youth involvement in agriculture. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to leverage his experience in farming and entrepreneurship to boost Ghana’s agricultural sector.
Born on February 3, 1984, Dumelo had his early education at Christ the King School in Accra before attending Achimota School, where he was active in the Drama Club. He later pursued a degree in Civil Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and furthered his education at GIMPA’s School of Public Service and Governance.
Dumelo began acting as a child in the 1992 film “Baby Thief” while in primary school. Over the years, he built a successful career in the entertainment industry before venturing into farming, focusing on both crop and animal production.
With his deep involvement in agriculture and youth empowerment, many expect his new role to bring innovative approaches to enhancing food production and agribusiness in Ghana.
