Jake Paul Defeats Mike Tyson in a Lackluster Bout

Jake Paul secured a points victory over boxing legend Mike Tyson in a lackluster match that left a crowd of 70,000 fans in Texas—and millions watching on Netflix—frustrated. The fight, billed as a historic clash between the YouTuber-turned-boxer and the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion, failed to live up to the hype.

Paul, 27, dominated the eight-round bout with two-minute rounds, relying on his youth and athleticism to keep Tyson at bay. The boxing novice landed 78 punches compared to Tyson’s meager 18, earning judges’ scores of 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73.

Tyson, competing for the first time in 19 years, struggled to find his rhythm. The 58-year-old received a hero’s welcome before the match, but boos erupted as the fight progressed and ended without any significant moments. Some spectators even left the venue before the official scores were announced.

“I came to fight,” Tyson said in a post-match interview, where he also hinted at facing Paul’s older brother, Logan Paul, in a future bout. Despite his comments, the fight raised questions about the legitimacy of the contest, with many criticizing the Texas commission’s decision to sanction it as a professional match.

The fighters used heavier gloves with extra padding to minimize injuries, but the precautions did little to save the spectacle. No punches came close to a knockout, leaving fans and analysts questioning whether the matchup should have taken place at all.

Paul, now with 11 professional wins, used the opportunity to call out Mexican boxing superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. “He knows he wants a payday, so he knows where the money is at,” Paul said confidently after the fight.

The event marks Tyson’s seventh career loss in 57 bouts, overshadowing his once-illustrious legacy. Meanwhile, Paul continues to polarize the boxing world, blending celebrity and sport in a way that draws attention but often disappoints purists.
