Interior Minister Extends Bawku Curfew, Maintains Ban on Weapons

The Minister for Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has extended the curfew on Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas following recommendations from the Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC).

The renewed curfew takes effect from Monday, March 3, 2025, with the curfew hours remaining from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The situation will be reviewed or renewed based on weekly security assessments.

Additionally, the Minister reaffirmed the ban on carrying offensive weapons, arms, or ammunition in the affected areas.

“Anyone found violating this directive will face arrest and prosecution,” he warned.

Bawku has been under curfew since November 2021 due to persistent chieftaincy conflicts, which have resulted in numerous casualties.
