I Will Review the Free SHS Policy – Alan Kyerematen

Former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has expressed his intention to reevaluate the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy should he be elected as President in the upcoming 2024 elections. While acknowledging the positive aspect of the NPP government’s initiative to enhance educational accessibility through the Free SHS policy, Mr. Kyerematen emphasized the significance of conducting a thorough review of the policy after seven years of implementation.

In his interview on UTV, Mr. Kyerematen laid out his vision for the education sector, underscoring the need for a comprehensive reevaluation of the Free SHS policy. He stated, “I will review Free SHS, we have implemented it for seven years. You cannot run a program for seven years without conducting a review. So, when I assume office, there will be a comprehensive assessment of the Free SHS policy.” While commending President Akufo-Addo for the original idea, Mr. Kyerematen stressed the necessity of a review to ensure its continued effectiveness.

Furthermore, Mr. Kyerematen assured that his government would not only focus on maintaining access to education but also on enhancing the quality of education that students receive. He elaborated on his plans, emphasizing increased investment in educational infrastructure, teacher training programs, and curriculum development. Mr. Kyerematen highlighted the importance of creating a well-rounded education system that prepares students to tackle both academic and practical challenges. This approach aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for success in a rapidly evolving world.
