I Won’t be Gentle Like Alan if November 4 Election is Rigged – Kennedy Agyapong Issues a Stern Warning to NPP

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a prominent contender for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer position, has emphasized the importance of conducting the upcoming November 4 Presidential primary in a fair and transparent manner. During an impassioned speech at his Kumasi Showdown walk on Saturday, September 30, 2023, Agyapong issued a stern warning to the party’s elections committee, stating that he would vigorously challenge any perceived rigging that favors another candidate.

Unlike his opponent Alan Kyerematen, who recently resigned from the NPP and formed the Movement For Change to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 Presidential elections, Agyapong asserted that he would not adopt a gentle approach in addressing electoral irregularities. Amidst thunderous cheers from his supporters, he declared, “I’m not like Alan who is gentle, let them try…”

Agyapong further outlined his unwavering commitment to an “eye for an eye” policy during the election, vowing not to succumb to any form of intimidation. He went on to disclose that he had been approached with significant sums of money to withdraw from the race, including an offer to become the running mate to Vice President Bawumia, but he adamantly rejected all such proposals.

Confident in his chances of victory, Agyapong asserted that he remains resolute in his pursuit of the flagbearer position within the NPP. His unwavering determination and refusal to be coerced have positioned him as a formidable contender for the upcoming November 4 primary.

The NPP, as a governing party, will face a critical test in ensuring a fair and transparent primary process. The eyes of party members and the public at large will be closely watching the proceedings to ensure the integrity of the NPP’s internal democracy. With Agyapong’s warning echoing throughout the political landscape, the party’s elections committee is under increased pressure to demonstrate its commitment to upholding democratic principles.

As the November 4 Presidential primary draws near, the NPP faces a pivotal moment that will shape the party’s future. The outcome of this contest will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications, not only for the NPP but also for Ghana’s political landscape as a whole.
