Kan Dapaah Sues Oliver Barker-Vormawor Over $1m Bribery Allegations

Minister of National Security, Kan Dapaah, has taken legal action against Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the organizer of the #FixTheCountry Movement. Barker-Vormawor alleged that in 2021, National Security and government officials met with him and offered money to silence him.

These accusations arose after Barker-Vormawor, along with others, was arrested on September 22 for staging a demonstration in Accra, breaching a restraining order secured by the police.

Kan Dapaah’s lawsuit includes a request for the court to declare Barker-Vormawor’s statements as defamatory. Additionally, he is seeking the recovery of Ten Million Ghana Cedis (GHC10,000,000.00) as General Damages, including Aggravated and/or Exemplary Damages for Defamation due to Barker-Vormawor’s words.

Furthermore, Kan Dapaah demands an apology, a retraction of the statements in question, and a perpetual injunction preventing Barker-Vormawor from making similar defamatory remarks.

Barker-Vormawor had claimed he was offered $1 million and government positions to cease his activism, which was critical of the government. He asserted having evidence but had not made it public.

On September 22, 2023, the Ministry of National Security issued a statement refuting these claims.
