Gunmen in Police Uniform Raid Kwahu Palace, Abduct Queenmother

Armed men dressed in police uniforms and claiming to be National Security personnel attacked the Kwahu Paramount Chief’s Palace at Abene around 4 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025. During the raid, the Kwahuhemaa, Nana Adwoa Gyemfua, was reportedly abducted.

Residents said they heard gunshots from inside the palace before the queenmother was taken away. The attackers also seized the official Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to the Kwahuhene. Tracking details show the vehicle is heading toward Accra.

Police in both Nkawkaw and the Kwahu Division have denied knowledge of any sanctioned operation by officers from their units or National Security. The motive behind the attack and abduction remains unknown.

The incident has heightened fear in Abene amid ongoing tensions linked to the Kwahu chieftaincy disputes. Authorities have begun investigations, with official statements expected soon.
