The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) will resume its 2025/2026 recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region on Thursday, November 20, after halting the process due to the November 12 stampede at the El-Wak Stadium, which claimed six lives and injured several others.
A statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin announced that screening will now be conducted across eight sub-centres in five key locations. The centres include:
- El-Wak Stadium – 2 centres
- Nicholson Park, Burma Camp – 2 centres
- Air Force Base, Burma Camp
- TRADOC, Teshie – 2 centres
- Eastern Naval Command, Tema
Qualified applicants will be screened in batches of 600. Each applicant will receive an SMS indicating their reporting date, batch number, and assigned centre. Candidates are advised to monitor the recruitment portal and follow all instructions carefully.
Applicants who do not receive an SMS by November 20 are to call 0256405104 or send a WhatsApp message to 0256405154 for support. Verification may also be done through the recruitment portal.
GAF has cautioned that family and friends will not be allowed at the screening centres to prevent congestion, and non-applicants will be denied entry.
The statement confirmed that a Board of Inquiry is investigating the November 12 incident. To ensure transparency, the entire Greater Accra recruitment team has been replaced. The new officers in charge are Commodore F.A. Nyarko, Colonel F. Kusi-Darko, and Colonel G.B. Eduah.
Victims of the stampede will continue to receive free treatment at the 37 Military Hospital. GAF will also provide a special recruitment package for the injured after recovery, as well as support for families of the deceased.
