A deadly attack in Gumyoko, a suburb of the Binduri District in the Upper East Region, has left three people dead, including a woman.
The attack occurred on the night of Saturday, March 9, 2025, when unidentified gunmen stormed the victims’ residence and opened fire, killing them on the spot.
While the motive remains unclear, some residents suspect the attack is linked to the ongoing Bawku Conflict, which has fueled tensions in the region.
Security forces have since restored calm in the area, with a joint military and police team deployed to maintain order. Authorities have assured residents of their commitment to protecting lives and property as investigations into the incident continue.
The latest killings have heightened concerns over the persistent insecurity in the region. Many residents are calling on the government to take decisive action to address the root causes of the conflict and restore lasting peace.
Since the resurgence of the Bawku Conflict in October 2024, approximately 70 people have lost their lives in related violence. The cycle of attacks and reprisals has disrupted livelihoods, displaced families, and instilled fear in communities.
Security officials have urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to justice. Meanwhile, peace advocates continue to push for dialogue and reconciliation efforts to end the hostilities.
