The government has announced major investments in Ghana’s creative sector, including plans to rehabilitate the National Theatre in Accra and initiate processes for a second national theatre in Kumasi.

Presenting the 2026 Budget Statement, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson said the rehabilitation works will restore the National Theatre’s capacity to host major events after years of structural decline.

He added that government will begin site acquisition and architectural designs for a new national theatre in Kumasi to expand access to performing arts facilities across the country.

In addition, a Creative Arts Fund will be launched to provide financing for sectors including music, fashion, visual arts, food, and cultural innovation.

“These initiatives form part of government’s commitment to growing Ghana’s cultural economy,” Dr. Forson stated.
