The Government of Ghana has released GH¢150 million to contractors for road maintenance activities nationwide. This allocation is specifically for pothole patching, with the aim of addressing road deterioration caused by heavy rains last year.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Nasir Ahmad Yartey, Head of the Public Relations Unit, stated that the release of funds is part of the first quarter allocations from the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Roads and Highways.
The intervention is intended to allow the Ghana Highways Authority and the Department of Urban Roads to take advantage of the dry season to undertake routine pothole patching activities on major roads. The Ministry hopes that this timely intervention will result in smoother road surfaces, reduce the risk of accidents, and prolong the lifespan of the country’s road infrastructure.
The statement reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to addressing all road network challenges across the country. It also urged the public to cooperate with the Ministry as it works to improve the national road network.
