The Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court has remanded two suspected landguards and 12 individuals reported to be National Security officers into police custody over the demolition of more than 60 houses at Gomoa Akoti in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

The court, presided over by Her Honour Nana Asantewaa Attakorah, ordered the suspects to be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, following their arrest in connection with the early morning demolition exercise.

According to prosecutors, the group stormed the Gomoa Akoti community on Thursday and allegedly demolished over 60 houses at various stages of completion.

The suspects have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime, using force and violence to prevent lawful landowners from accessing their property, causing fear and panic, and unlawful destruction. They were arrested by the Gomoa Ojobi District Police Command.

The court rejected their plea for bail, citing the gravity of the alleged offences, and remanded them into police custody to reappear on March 4, 2026.

Reacting to the court’s decision, a property owner, Juliana Asane, expressed relief over the outcome but said she would only feel fully satisfied if justice is served.

“I’m very happy about the outcome of the event. But I’ll be happier if they are finally jailed because I became very terrified about what occurred.

“I wouldn’t know where they would have taken my siblings to but for the timely arrival of the police,” she said.

Meanwhile, traditional authorities in Gomoa Akoti have appealed to the Ghana Police Service to intensify operations in the area to flush out landguards who appear to be resuming their activities.
