The Ghana Gold Board, in collaboration with the Goldbod Taskforce and National Security operatives, has arrested 25 individuals, both Ghanaians and foreign nationals, for allegedly engaging in illegal gold trading, smelting, and assaying in Accra.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Richard Nunekpeku, Esq., disclosed at a press briefing on Monday, November 10, 2025, that the arrests followed two separate intelligence-led operations at Dome Pillar 2 and Akweteyman-Achimota.
He revealed that the operation led to the seizure of over GH¢64,000 and USD 112,500 in cash, alongside several gold bars and other materials believed to have been used in the illegal business.
Mr. Nunekpeku said all suspects have been granted police inquiry bail, with some already appearing before the court while others remain under investigation.

He reiterated the Board’s commitment to cleaning up Ghana’s gold trade sector, cautioning unlicensed operators to desist from such illegal activities.
Mr. Nunekpeku further assured that the Ghana Gold Board, in collaboration with security agencies, will continue to strengthen surveillance and enforcement nationwide to protect Ghana’s mineral resources and ensure strict compliance with mining regulations.
