The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has strongly condemned what it describes as a brutal and unlawful attack on teachers of West Africa Senior High School (WASS), declaring zero tolerance for violence against educators.
The incident occurred on Friday, February 13, 2026, during school hours. According to reports, some male students believed to be from Frafraha Community Senior High School were allegedly found in a WASS classroom with female students, contrary to school regulations on unauthorised access to campus.
With many teachers engaged in activities to mark the school’s 80th anniversary, a small group of staff led by Mr Nicholas Teye confronted the visitors and asked them to leave. The situation reportedly escalated into verbal exchanges before the group exited the campus.
However, at about 4:30 p.m. the same day, the group allegedly returned on motorbikes with additional accomplices and launched a violent attack on the teachers.
Mr Teye was severely assaulted, sustaining injuries and trauma, while other teachers were also attacked before staff managed to repel the assailants.
The matter has been reported to the police, and GNAT is demanding swift investigations and prosecution of all those involved.
The Association has directed teachers within the district to wear red armbands as a symbol of protest and has urged the Ghana Education Service and community leaders to take immediate action to curb the rising threat of violence against teachers.
GNAT says it remains on red alert and will pursue justice for its members while advising calm among educators.
