Gideon Boako Accuses NDC of Hidden Political Agenda Behind Democracy Hub Protest

Gideon Boako, spokesperson for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has claimed that the recent Democracy Hub demonstration is part of a covert strategy by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to incite public discontent against the government.

According to Boako, the protest, which was presented as a campaign against illegal mining (galamsey), serves as a political tool designed to undermine the current administration.

Speaking during an interview with Peace FM on Friday, September 27, 2024, Dr. Boako pointed out that while galamsey remains a serious concern, the NDC’s involvement in the demonstration suggests ulterior motives beyond environmental preservation.

He argued that the timing of the protest, just months before the upcoming elections, indicates a calculated effort to sway public sentiment and damage the government’s reputation.

Boako urged Ghanaians to be aware of these tactics and to acknowledge the government’s strides in addressing the galamsey issue, emphasizing that significant efforts have been made to protect the country’s natural resources.

He advised against allowing political actors to manipulate public concerns for their own gain, especially under the guise of addressing social or environmental issues.

“Don’t be deceived by the NDC’s latent attempt to hide behind those protesters to cause public disaffection for the government. They are politically motivated to do anything to tarnish the government’s image and advance their agenda,” Boako said.

He also warned that if the NDC were to come to power, many of the protest leaders would likely receive government appointments, suggesting that the protest may have been part of a larger political strategy.
