Member of Parliament for Pusiga, Laadi Ayii Ayamba, has described the tragic military recruitment stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, which claimed the lives of six young women, as an event destined by Allah.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Ayamba expressed her condolences to the bereaved families and urged the nation to find comfort in faith. “It is very painful to have our children go for recruitment only for us to lose them, but I want us all to take solace in the Almighty Allah. There’s nothing that happens that doesn’t happen at the right time. This is what the Almighty Allah has ordained for them,” she said.
The stampede occurred when thousands of young Ghanaians thronged the El-Wak Sports Stadium in a bid to secure recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). The overcrowding and intense pushing at the entry points reportedly triggered chaos, leading to multiple injuries and deaths.
According to the GAF, all six deceased were female applicants. Several others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital, with some in critical condition.
In response, the GAF suspended the recruitment exercise until further notice as investigations continue to uncover the factors that led to the disaster.
The tragic event has reignited public debate about the need for improved crowd control and safety protocols during national recruitment processes, with many calling for structural reforms to prevent such incidents in the future.
