Ghana’s Electoral Commission Registers 182,831 Voters in First Six Days of Limited Registration Exercise

The Electoral Commission (EC) in Ghana has conducted a limited voter registration exercise, which began on September 12, 2023, and will conclude on October 2, 2023. During the first six days of this exercise, a total of 182,831 voters were registered across the country. The distribution of registered voters by region is as follows:

– Western region: 11,644 (6.4%)

– Western North: 6,491 (3.6%)

– Central region: 17,590 (9.6%)

– Greater Accra region: 27,264 (14.9%)

– Volta region: 12,681 (6.9%)

– Oti region: 4,427 (2.4%)

– Eastern region: 19,327 (10.6%)

– Ashanti region: 29,255 (16%)

– Bono region: 6,580 (3.6%)

– Ahafo region: 4,244 (2.3%)

– Upper East: 8,639 (4.7%)

– Upper West: 5,241 (2.9%)

Additionally, it was reported that 53.9% of the registered voters were male, while 46.1% were female. This voter registration exercise is part of the EC’s preparations for the 2024 general elections and is open to eligible Ghanaians who have turned 18 and above since the last registration in 2020 or who were unable to register during the 2020 exercise.
